What inspired the creation of this Foundation?
Moose's Mission Inc. was inspired by the ableist treatment Ally, the founder, witnessed her brother Gavin, whom she lovingly calls Moose, fight through growing up. We believe that ableism is a learned behavior, and that by introducing children to the concepts of disabilities and how to be inclusive from a younger age, we will raise a more accepting and aware generation.
Too often, we make fun of things that we do not understand, or that stand out in a crowd.
Moose’s Mission Inc. breaks this pattern by explicitly outlining how to be inclusive, including things we do not see or understand, and how to teach others that same practice as well. Moose’s story is one of resilience and bravery, but also loneliness. His narratives push children and adult to think less on what a disability means he cannot do, but everything that he can.
